What files must the ZIP contain? ▾

Answer

At minimum, the .shp (geometry) and .dbf (attributes) files are required. Include the .prj file to enable automatic coordinate re-projection to WGS84. The .shx index file is optional.

What if my Shapefile uses a different coordinate system? ▾

Answer

If a .prj file is included, the tool reads the projection definition and converts coordinates to WGS84 (EPSG:4326) in the output. Without a .prj file, coordinates are assumed to be WGS84.

Is there a file size limit? ▾

Answer

The tool handles typical Shapefile archives up to several hundred MB. Very large files may be slow to process in the browser.

Question 4

Can I open the output GeoJSON in QGIS or Mapbox? ▾

Answer

Yes. The output is a standard GeoJSON FeatureCollection compatible with all GIS applications and web mapping libraries.

Question 5

Are my files uploaded to a server? ▾

Answer

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using a JavaScript Shapefile parser. Your files never leave your device.
